The Canadian Intellectual Property Office has identified the period from March 16, 2020 to August 21, 2020 as “designation days” under the Canadian Patent Rules. We are advised that some of the deadlines falling inside these dates are automatically extended to August 24, 2020, as a result of the unforeseen disruption caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. We’ve been advised that this is the final extension of these designated days. Nonetheless, we are currently of the view that any deadlines falling into this period should nonetheless be met, in the absence of special circumstances otherwise.
