Dr. Laurette McCormick obtained her Ph.D. in physics, with an emphasis in biophysics, from the University of Ottawa, after completing undergraduate studies in physics at Trent University. Her doctoral research was focused primarily with material characterization / separation techniques, leading to a dozen scientific publications in internationally renowned journals, several book chapters, and a number of pending and issued patents.
Based in Ottawa, Laurette joined GASTLES in 2011 after working for a number of years as a technical associate for boutique intellectual property firms in Ottawa. Laurette’s practice focuses on servicing local clients, particularly in the high tech industry, having drafted and prosecuted various International Patent Applications (PCT) and national applications in Canada, the United States and China, to name a few. Laurette also advises foreign Associates in dealing with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office.
Laurette’s extensive scientific background, which includes not only biophysics, but also various aspects of atmospheric and environmental physics, biomechanical engineering and material characterization techniques, has led her to practice in many different fields of technology, including semiconductor devices, telecommunications, industrial processing techniques, optics, information technology and mechanical systems.
